Woodcut and Linocut are relief printing processes. The surface of the plate is gouged out with a cutting tool, these areas remain white when printed. Successive colour layers can be overprinted.
Wood Engraving is a relief printing process a bit like woodcut but the surface and tools used are a lot finer. Traditionally end grain boxwood is used but also lemon wood and other finely grained woods. The surface is gouged out with a cutting tool, these areas remain white when printed.
