Old Farm, Winter, Upper Teesdale
An old farm across the fields almost hidden at Forest in Teesdale
Oil on board
I tend to treat my oil paintings in a more 'expressive' manner showing brushwork and less detailed.
Sometimes I just pick up random boards that are in the studio and start to paint on them, this one was an old wooden drawing board I was given by a student. It was a bit battered but I liked the feel of it, but I cut in in half to get the format. Half way though the painting I noticed an embossed stamp faintly on the back of it..it read, Bowes Museum. Must have been old stuff thrown out or given away sometime in the distant past.
The painting is 'suspended' in a float frame. I made the frame myself from solid ash and painted it. This was the first frame of this kind I made. It is on display at my Open Studio every Sunday. (ring 01833 650135 to check opening times).
